Professor Annamarie Jagose OAM

Professor Annamarie Jagose OAM is Senior Deputy Vice Chancellor and Provost at the University of Sydney, having previously worked at the University of Auckland and the University of Melbourne. Annamarie is an internationally renowned scholar in feminist and queer studies, a Fellow of the Australian Academy of the Humanities and Fellow of the Royal Society of New South Wales. She is also a Director of the Westpac Scholars Trust, which empowers the next generation of leaders through education and development opportunities, and a Patron of The Pinnacle Foundation, Australia’s LGBTQIA+ education charity.

She is the author of four scholarly monographs, the last being Orgasmology (Duke University Press), a cultural history across the long twentieth century that takes orgasm as its unlikely scholarly object in order to unsettle some received thinking in feminist and queer studies about sex and sexuality.

Annamarie is also a short story writer and an award-winning novelist. Her last novel, Slow Water (Vintage Books), is a historical fiction based on a real nineteenth-century sexual scandal concerning William Yates, an English clergyman in colonial Sydney. It was shortlisted for the premier Australian literary prize, the Miles Franklin Literary Award, and won both the premier New Zealand literary prize, the Deutz Medal, and the Victorian Premier’s Award.
