Dr Shirleene Robinson

Australian Capital Territory Committee Chair

Dr Shirleene Robinson is a historian, author and curator. She has volunteered with Australian Marriage Equality since 2012, serving as New South Wales Co-Convenor, National Spokesperson and Board Director. She is also the President of Sydney’s Pride History Group.

Shirleene has a PhD in History from the University of Queensland and is the author and co-author of many books, including Serving in Silence: Australian LGBT Servicemen and Women (2018) and (with Alex Greenwich) Yes Yes Yes: Australia’s Journey to Marriage Equality (2018).

Shirleene has been a Rydon Fellow at King’s College in London, had taught Australian Studies in China and has been an Associate Professor at Macquarie University.

In 2017, The Conversation named Shirleene as one of Australia’s top fifty thinkers. In 2018, she was awarded the Media Award at the ACON Honour Awards for her work in the media.
