Dan Bourchier
Dan Bourchier is an award-winning multi-platform broadcaster with the ABC, accomplished company director, an in-demand public speaker and event MC and facilitator.
Dan anchors Mornings and Weekends on ABC News channel, and is the chair of the ABCs Bonner Committee, which advises the managing director and board on Indigenous affairs. Dan regularly hosts major national programs and events for the ABC.
In 2023, Dan was the ABCs voice/referendum correspondent, and headed up the reporting coverage across the ABC, as well as presenting a special series of One Plus One – The Elders, which took the show to the communities of the guests so they could share their stories on their Country. He was also a host of The Drum, and reported for Four Corners, regularly appeared on Insiders, and reported across radio, TV, online and social media at the ABC.
Dan is openly gay and an enthusiastic advocate for LGBTQIA+ equity, and particularly the intersectionality with Indigeneity. He grew up in the remote Northern Territory town of Tennant Creek, where he was mentored by Elders from the region, while connecting to his own Indigenous heritage from his mum’s family in Victoria.
Dan has worked as a radio broadcaster, newspaper reporter, video journalist, foreign correspondent, political reporter, and social commentator.
As a broadcaster, Dan gives voice to the voiceless, holding to account those in positions of power, understanding the world around us better, and telling remarkable stories – while his work as a company director is underpinned by cultural and ethical governance, and a positive social impact. He is a powerful advocate for a more just community, and particularly advocates for Indigenous people and for LGBTQIA+ communities.
Dan said he was a passionate ambassador of The Pinnacle Foundation because of its important work in creating opportunities and mentoring for young LGBTQIA+ Australians. “This work is crucial, now more than ever, as we grapple with a more and more fractured and polarised world,” Dan said, “Creating space for our young Australians to realise their full potential is all of our work.”
Dan is a graduate of the Australian Rural Leadership Program and a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and is also an ambassador for the Australian Indigenous Education Foundation; the National Association of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workers and Practitioners; and on the cultural council of Meanjin quarterly.
