Theo (he/them)

Doctor of Medicine

NSW

Hey, my name is Theo! I am a trans man currently studying a Doctor of Medicine at Charles Sturt University in Orange. In 2023, I will be going into my second year of study with another three to go.

I have a previous background in science and completed a Bachelor of Medicinal Chemistry at UNSW in 2021. During this time was when I began my transition and developed a passion to improve trans healthcare.

I grew up in the rural town of Bowral where access to LGBTIQ+ inclusive services was limited and hence I have a passion to improve LGBTIQ+ inclusive healthcare in rural communities.

So far, I have been lucky enough to speak to medical cohorts about my experiences and how we as doctors can provide affirming care to all trans identifying individuals. Currently, I am a member of the LGBTIQ+ Education and Advocacy panel in collaboration with Western Sydney University where we aim to improve the inclusivity of the medical curriculum including the addition of gender affirming care as well as general LGBTIQ+ support. I hope to see these changes follow through in the coming years.

Upon graduating, I hope to become a surgeon specialising in gender affirmation surgeries.

I would like to say thank you to HCF for funding my scholarship, and to The Pinnacle Foundation for giving me this opportunity. It is going to make a significant difference to my study life and has motivated me even more to make a change to the wider community.
