QLD

In 2021 I will begin studying a Master in Science at the University of Queensland (UQ), St Lucia, where I will specialise in applied mathematics.

I completed my undergraduate studies at the UQ graduating in 2018 with degrees in Science (Mathematics) and Secondary Education. Throughout my undergraduate years, I participated in the Mathematics Student Society and UQ Queer Collective. After working in the education industry for the past two years, I am excited to commence graduate study with enthusiasm and passion.

I have always enjoyed mathematics and science and have wished to combine these skills to help humanity. My goal is to apply mathematics to a field of biology such as systems biology or mathematical neuroscience. Systems biology uses mathematical and computational skills to analyse vast arrays of biological process such as cancer metastasis, cell function, recovery from abrasions or burns, ecological process and modelling, genetic modelling, and mathematical neuroscience. Mathematical approaches to biology are predicted to be key in furthering advances in the field of personalised medicine. After completing a master’s thesis in this area, I hope to pursue a PhD in systems biology and aspire to work as a researcher in academia whilst championing mathematics education and LGBTIQ+ rights in the broader community.
