My name is Raleigh. I am a proud transgender man, and deeply grateful to be receiving an Olrem Scholarship for 2025. I am starting in my first year of my 3-year degree in Medical, Molecular and Forensic Sciences, majoring in Genetics and Microbiology, at Murdoch University in Western Australia (WA). I chose this degree as a first step towards what I hope will be a great career in virology, the study of viruses and how they work. I have been passionate about the field of health for a very long time, and I am excited to start studying again.  

I grew up in southwest WA, but my family migrated way back in 2010. I like arts and sciences equally- I will fill any time where my hands are idle with sketches and doodles! I have got a sweet 3 year old Kelpie named Vinnie- nearly 4 now. I am deeply grateful to The Pinnacle Foundation and the lovely person who sponsored my scholarship, Jess, for granting me this opportunity. I am also proud of myself for finding the courage to apply. Taking a chance without being sure of the outcome is scary, but it can be so worth it! 

The Pinnacle Foundation have made a big difference in my ability to access university, and the mentorship program is something I am really looking forward to. Thanks to everyone once again- can’t wait to work with you all!
