Bachelor of Engineering (Instrumentation Control and Automation) (Honours) - Edith Cowan University
Olrem Scholarship, WA
Hello, I am Oliver, and in 2026 I will be entering my third year of an undergraduate engineering degree at Edith Cowan University in Western Australia. I am studying for a Bachelor of Engineering in Instrumentation, Control, and Automation (Honours)—quite a mouthful, I know! I chose this field because I have always had a passion for learning and for creating innovative designs and solutions, particularly when they involve automation.
Once I complete my degree, I hope to join Western Australia’s mining workforce, although I am also very interested in the future of agricultural engineering as farming becomes increasingly autonomous. I have lived my entire life in the Perth Hills on a property, and I love the bush and everything outdoors, including four-wheel driving, climbing, and freediving. Location-wise, it has been the perfect halfway point between the country and the city, and I feel very fortunate.
One slight downside was that I did not have much exposure to a queer community until recently, so I am extremely grateful to now be part of the Pinnacle family. I applied for a Pinnacle scholarship in hopes of connecting with more like-minded people who can support my journey and to represent myself as a gay person in the engineering field. Academically, the scholarship will be a tremendous help, as it will allow me to dedicate more time to studying and less time working. This is especially important because I already spend a significant amount of time commuting to campus.
