Joey (he/him)
Bachelor of Law (Honours) and Bachelor of Arts - Monash University
The L'Oréal Scholarship, VIC
Hello! I am Joey, a fifth-year Law and Arts (majoring in Psychology) student at Monash University.
Most of my upbringing has been in Hong Kong where I grew up. I have since moved to Melbourne to study and develop a career in the legal sector. Since starting university, I have had the pleasure of serving on the Monash Law Student Society Committee’s Queer Office to provide networking, support and community to queer law students. I am also passionate about advocating for people of colour communities (POC) communities given the cultural complexities in the intersection of being queer and a person of colour. As someone who experienced this myself, a solid legal career would allow me to use my knowledge and skills to empower and create tangible outcomes for those who may not be able to themselves.
With my professional legal experience, I would like to pursue corporate and commercial law, focusing on public policy and infrastructure, governance and privacy to explore their impact on the queer and POC communities. Outside of academics, I am also an avid violinist and have been playing for the last 17 years.
I sincerely thank L’Oreal and The Pinnacle Foundation for this scholarship. I am beyond grateful for the support provided by the Pinnacle family during my years of tertiary education and early career development.
