Medicine
VIC
Hi, my name is Gabin. It is an exceptional honour to have the Pinnacle Foundation’s support as I enter my final year of medicine and the burgeoning phase of my career. I am incredibly humbled to have been chosen as the recipient of The Alan Joyce AC & Shane Lloyd Scholarship in 2022.
I was born and raised in the northern suburbs of Melbourne and completed my final years of high school at Melbourne High School, graduating as dux in 2017. In 2022, I will be studying my fifth and final year of a Bachelor of Medical Science/ Doctor of Medicine at Monash University.
With my degree, I am hoping to pursue a career as a psychiatrist. Mental illness affects everyone but disproportionately impacts those of the LGBTIQ+ community. Not only is the role about treating medical illness but also empowering patients and helping them navigate the complexities of their own life. I see psychiatry as the bridge between health and social inequality and believe this is the way I can best benefit the community as well as find meaning in my own life.
I have benefited immensely from the passion and ethos of my mentors. I have been both mentored and a mentee and I hope to continue this involvement in the future, working especially with those at the intersection of their identity and ethnicity.
I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to Alan Joyce AC and Shane Lloyd for supporting me and my aspirations. Having the support and belief of such incredible icons instils me with the confidence to continue my own path. Their enduring contributions to the LGBTIQ+ community have inspired a generation and I am so lucky to be a part of the community that they and The Pinnacle Foundation have created.
