Dominic (he/they)

Bachelor of Science (Hons) and Bachelor of Arts (Linguistics)

NSW

Hi, my name is Dominic. I am in my 5th year of study, currently finishing off my honours in microbiology. I have one more year left of my undergrad, an honours year in linguistics, and then a 4-year PhD after that. I am studying at UNSW Sydney. Having grown up in a rural region of a post-Communist country, there were not many opportunities to be openly queer. Since moving to Australia, and later starting university, I have been able to surround myself with an inclusive community that has let me thrive. After finishing my honours study, I aim to pursue a PhD in sexually transmitted infections microbiology. By studying both the social and scientific aspects of sexual health, I hope to be a pivotal player in fighting the stigma that surrounds sexual health and helping develop new treatments to infections that often effect marginalised communities. My goal feels one step closer to being reached with the Mike Gordon scholarship. I will forever be indebted to the wonderful donors that are changing lives in the queer community.
