Cate (she/her)

Bachelor of Science (Ecology)/Bachelor of Arts (Sociology) - University of Tasmania

The Hydro Tasmania Scholarship, TAS

Hello! My name is Cate, and I am studying at the University of Tasmania in Hobart. In 2025, I will be studying my second year of a Science/Arts double degree, majoring in Ecology and Sociology, respectively. I aim to finish my studies in 2027 or 2028.

I am originally from Brisbane, and I made the big move down in 2024 to Tasmania in order to study. I have found Tassie to be a fantastic environment to study and also to live in and have a more independent life. I had planned this move since grade 12 and worked during a gap year in order to afford the move. I am extremely proud of my personal, social, and academic learning and growth throughout this transition phase. I am passionate about nature and people, and the interactions between them both.

Diversity, both biodiversity and social diversity, is an instrumental and underappreciated strength of Australia, and I am especially interested in integrating social and environmental management policies together to benefit both parties. I am neurodivergent, a proud feminist and queer woman, and wish to champion diverse perspectives across both STEM and the social sciences, especially in Australia.

The Pinnacle Foundation Scholarship, generously provided by Hydro Tasmania, will allow me to really focus on my coursework and enable me to engage with more university opportunities across my fields.
