What is the selection process?

The selection process aligns with the academic year. Applications close 1 October and short listed candidates are identified for interview in November with the winners of the scholarship being informed by the end of the December subject to the placement offer being made.
The Selection Committee’s deliberations are guided by criteria. The Application Form addresses each part of these criteria.
Most importantly, applicants need to identify as Lesbians, Gay, Queer, Bisexual, Intersex or Transgender. The Committee gives preference to these candidates who as a result of personal or social circumstances face significant challenges which has affected or could affect their ability to complete their education.
The Committee also considers whether the applicant is:

  • A serious consistent student who has shown scholastic achievement during their academic year
  • Is able to demonstrate a commitment to completing the education course they are undertaking’
  • Demonstrates leadership skills, excellent scholastic achievement and wants to make a difference in the world, and
  • Shows pride in and dedication to the LGBT+ community.

Your application should only be completed once you have read the application form. Applicants who complete the documentation fully will be considered for short listing with an interview conducted either late in November or early December.

The application process is open to only Australian citizens and permanent residents who are between the ages of 16-24 at the time that the scholarship is awarded.
