Catherine McGregor has served as an officer in both the Australian Army and the Royal Australian Air Force over a period spanning forty years. She is currently a senior adviser and speech writer to the Chief of the Air Force. She was awarded the Order of Australia in the Military Division on Australia Day 2012 for consistently exceptional service to the Australian Army in the area of Strategic Policy and Force Development.
She was a well known writer and commentator on Australian politics having written weekly columns in the Australian Financial Review, The Sydney Morning Herald and The Australian for over a decade in addition to appearing as an expert on all Australian television networks. She also served as Chief of Staff and Press Secretary to Bob Carr when he was leader of the New South Wales Labor Party.
She is published author (as Malcolm McGregor) and is the President of Australian Defence Women’s cricket. She affirmed her female gender on 7 July 2012 and has been known as Catherine McGregor since that time. She is committed to LGBTI and women’s issues.
